The Ophthalmologist
Ophthalmologists, by and large, has finished medicine in college and has undergone at least 8 additional years in college. An ophthalmologist can diagnose and treat eye diseases as well as perform eye surgeries. Furthermore, they can also prescribe and fit eyeglasses and lenses for various vision problems.
The Optometrist
Optometry involves eye exams, performing vision tests, prescribing corrective lenses, and detecting certain eye diseases. However, keep in mind that optometrists are not medical doctors per se but they are actually licensed to perform the aforementioned responsibilities after completing 4 years of optometry.
The Optician
After seeing an ophthalmologist or optometrist, you may be referred to an optician. This member of the eye care team is responsible in designing, correcting, and fitting lenses, frames, and contact lenses. Opticians, however, are not allowed to diagnose or treat eye conditions.
